1. Free to use, and future changes. notamap's core features (the
speedometer, speed-limit display, and police-checkpoint warnings) are free to use and will
remain free. Using the app grants you a personal, non-transferable licence to use it and
the curated dataset within it, for one person on their own device, not the underlying raw
geographic or speed-limit data, which remains the property of its respective sources and of
the developer. We may in future show ads or offer a paid subscription for new or additional
features; any paid features will be optional and clearly marked. If you created your account
before any such ads or paid features are introduced, you may opt out of them and keep using
the core features fully free and ad-free, for as long as we continue to operate the
service.
2. Licence restrictions. Except as permitted by the Open Database License
(ODbL) for OpenStreetMap data, you may not copy, resell, rent, sub-license,
publicly distribute, or share access to the app or its dataset. You may not scrape,
extract, decompile, reverse engineer, or attempt to recreate the dataset, nor use the app
or its data to build, train, or operate a competing product or service.
3. Information accuracy. Speed limits, road names, alert locations and
all other information are provided “as is” for informational and convenience purposes
only. The data is compiled from public and community sources and is not officially
verified, certified or guaranteed to be accurate, complete or current. Posted road signs
and the instructions of law-enforcement officers always take legal precedence over
anything shown in this app.
4. No warranties. The app is provided “as is” and “as available”,
without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied
warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or
uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that the app will always be
available, secure, or free of faults.
5. Limitation of liability. You use notamap at your own risk. To the
maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any fines, penalties,
accidents, losses or damages, or for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential
loss, arising from your use of or reliance on the app or its data. To the extent any
liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to any amount you have paid us in the 12 months
before the claim (which, for the free core features, is zero). Nothing in these terms
excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any
other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. notamap is not a substitute for safe
driving, attention to the road, or compliance with the law.
6. Driver responsibility. Do not manually operate or physically interact
with the app while driving. Submitting reports or any other input is for passengers only,
or for when your
vehicle is safely stopped and parked. Mount your device so the display is glanceable, and
always obey actual road signs and traffic laws.
7. Lawful use only. Checkpoint and station information is provided to
promote safe, lawful driving, so you slow down, drive carefully, and have your documents
ready near checkpoints. It is not provided to help evade enforcement. You may not use the
app to evade lawful police action, obstruct any public officer, or facilitate any offence;
doing so may itself be unlawful and is your sole responsibility. Station locations and
community reports are general, largely static public-safety information, not real-time
tracking of any individual officer or person.
8. No official affiliation. notamap is an independent app. It is not
affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Sri Lanka Police, the Government of Sri
Lanka, or any law-enforcement agency.
9. Personal use & account sharing. Your account is for personal use
on your own device. Accounts showing signs of sharing (for example, simultaneous use in
different locations) may be flagged and suspended. If your access is suspended in error,
contact us at
notamapdata@proton.me.
10. User-submitted content. If you submit reports or other content, you
grant notamap a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, store and display it within
the service. You must not submit false or malicious reports, or content that identifies or
targets any individual (including names, faces, or vehicle number plates). We do not
pre-screen or actively monitor submissions and act as a passive host. If you believe any
content is false, malicious, infringing, or identifies an individual, report it to
notamapdata@proton.me and
we will review and remove it where appropriate. We are not responsible for content
submitted by users.
11. Indemnity. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to
indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the developer from and against any claims,
liabilities, damages, losses, costs and legal fees arising from your use or misuse of the
app, your breach of these terms, or any content you submit.
12. Data sources & licensing. Speed limits are derived from public
official sources, including the Government Gazette and other official texts (which carry
no copyright under s.8 of the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003); station and road
data are from OpenStreetMap; community reports come from public user submissions. notamap
licenses its curation and presentation of this information for personal use. It claims no
ownership over the underlying facts or third-party data.
13. Payments (future paid features). The core app is free. If we
introduce optional paid features, payments may be handled by third-party providers and the
developer does not receive or store your card or wallet details. Any paid digital item is
final once delivered, subject to applicable consumer-protection law.
14. Eligibility. notamap is intended for licensed drivers and their
passengers. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or make a purchase.
15. Suspension & termination. We may suspend or end your access if
you breach these terms or misuse the app. You may stop using the app at any time. Clauses
that by their nature should continue, including licensing, disclaimers, limitation of
liability and governing law, survive any termination.
16. Changes, governing law & severability. We may update these
terms; the date below shows the current version. If we make material changes, we will
notify you (for example, by an in-app notice or email), and your continued use after such
notice means you accept the updated terms. These terms are governed by the laws of Sri
Lanka, and any disputes are
subject to the jurisdiction of its courts. If any provision of these terms is found
unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in full effect.
